Un pequeño homenaje a Moldoff y Forte / A Modest tribute to Moldoff & Forte

 

 

 

 

Tanto a Sheldon Moldoff en Batman como a John Forte en Legión de Superhéroes se los suele descartar, a la hora de nombrar a los grandes dibujantes del género. Tanto el trabajo de uno como del otro, sin embargo, no dejan de brindame un enorme placer. Ya escribí sobre Forte en http://quiquealcatena.blogspot.com.ar/2009/09/john-forte.html; le debo un artículo a Moldoff. En la primera imagen, algunos de esos olvidados enemigos de Batman  tan característicos de la era Moldoff; en la segunda una escena de la primera historia de la legión que leí en mi vida. El monstruo gaseoso que volatilizaba al villano no deja de impresionarme.

 

It´s quite common to disregard Sheldon Moldoff' s labour in Batman ( in the pre-"New Look" days), and John Forte´s seminal work in Legion of Superheroes. However, they have always delighted me, to this very day. I´ve already written about Forte in http://quiquealcatena.blogspot.com.ar/2009/09/john-forte.html, but I still owe Moldoff a brief article on his stint at Batman. The first image showcases some of the Batman foes so typical of Sheldon´s tenure; the second one is based on the climax of the first Legion story I ever read, way back when; that gaseous monster still gives me the creeps.

Marvel 2099!

 

 

 

 

Allá lejos y hace tiempo. además de Doom 2099 hice algunos trabajos más para los títulos de "2099" de la Marvel (versiones de sus personajes en el futuro). El editor era el estupendo Joey Cavalieri. Uno de ellos fue Punisher 2099 con Chuck Dixon: dos números de los cuales aquí hay algunas páginas. Si bien nunca me gustó el Punisher del mainstream ( está en las antípodas de lo que considero un superhéroe), su avatar futurístico no estaba mal: muy en la línea de la 2000 AD británica. Con Terry Kavanagh, hice Radian, cuya onda mística me hacía acordar al "Him" de Lee y Kirby. Lamentablemente, Marvel decidió cancelar la línea 2099 antes de que estos cómics fueran publicados. Mi agradecimiento a Victor Cardigan por las páginas de Radian con la guía a color.

 

Once upon a time, besides Doom 2099, I did some other 2099 titles for Marvel - that is, futuristic versions of some of its characters- edited by the great Joey Cavalieri. With Chuck Dixon we came up with a couple of Punisher 2099 issues- some of their pages are featured here. Although I've never liked the mainstream Punisher ( he is the very nadir of superheoism,  in my opinion), his futuristic avatar was quite alright, very much in the mood  of the British 2000AD. With Terry Kavanagh, we did Radian, the mystical luminous alien who somehow reminded me of Lee and Kirby' s "Him". Alas, Marvel cancelled the 2099 line before all these comics came to light.
